Hytte Kolonihagen, is the name of a Modern Summer House project that have been designed and built in 2003 by Tommie Wilhelmsen. Architect Tommie Wilhelmsen born 1973 in Stavanger. He graduated in 2000 at the Bergen School of Architecture.
In 2001 he set up his professional studio. The office is located in Stavanger, on the west coast of Norway. Workes with the focus on the residential typology. Spring 2006 Wilhelmsen will be on of 6 invited offices in an exibition for young norwegian architecture in Ferrarra, Italy. Basic elemnets like wind, terrain, sun, rain, landscape and clima is the fundamnet for all design. Each house (building) is designed only for one spot on the planet. The projects are devolped not as only practical planing, but also ass visuell research. The playfull, naiv optimistic and useless has just as big value in the design process as the logicla og practical. Essensial is the belife that a good house can change your life. Good architecture is a place that its never easy to leave.

A Modern Summer House should be simple insofar as it is easy to maintain, inexpensive, comfortable and requires little work to get back into working condition after being idle for a while. While this miniature modular house takes advantage of cheap materials, a simple plan and a small site to save on costs, it is also compelling in its three-dimensional spatial complexity.

Seen from the outside, the secluded enclosure of an upper bedroom also wraps to form a semi-enclosed deck space below. The volumes that comprise the house fit together but also provide views in various directions and some privacy between each interior and exterior room.

The interior of this Modern Summer House is modern and minimalist as the exterior. Simple white walls and mostly built-in furniture populate these spaces and open shelving and clean lines are found throughout making everything easy to keep tidy.

Nooks and crannies are formed by the wrapping exterior walls to create comfortable interior spaces within the plan – without letting them become cramped by being fully divided and isolated.

Shifts in elevation are also employed to make each small space a distinct section inside of the structure as a whole. While it is only a Modern Summer House this would be a wonderfully rich set of spaces to live in year round as well. Via..
